Interesting Pool Sites on the Web – 3
Back in March and then again in May, I posted two pieces #1and #2 about 5 interesting pool sites on the web. It’s been awhile and I think it’s about time I did it again.
The web is chock-a-block with great pool info, and I just want to do my small part to point people to them. Here are 4 more sites that I’m confident you’ll find insightful and valuable, and that I hope will whet your appetite for even further exploration. Like last time, these sites are in no particular order. And don’t hesitate to recommend your favorite sites; Pool Student’s Blog is all about sharing the knowledge.

CueTable
CueTable is the website of Wei Chao, who created the fabulous and incredibly useful pool diagramming tool called CueTable. I use that tool here on my site and it’s the standard diagramming software on AZ Billiards and most other sites that support diagrams. It’s endorsed by numerous pros and instructors, and if you’re not using it to help you talk about shots you’re really missing out.
But there’s much more on the site than that. It’s organized as a Forum, broken down into various topics, and then threads within topics, etc. Here are just a few of the main topics: Pool Game Discussions, Ask Pool Instructors, Pool Video Screening Room and Billiard Art Gallery. There’s also a Layout Diagram Archive.
Wei has done so much for the game of pool by advancing the art of on-line pool discussion that I think we should all show our appreciation by stopping in now and again to say hi, read up on the great information and join in the discussion.

NYC Grind
NYC Grind was recommended by two readers of the previous column on Other Pool Websites. I already knew about the site, and had it in my Blogroll, but since my 3 attempts to contact them went unanswered I figured they weren’t interested. Well, so what! It’s a damned good site and you should know about it, if you don’t already. I’s cool, it’s professional, and it covers both the NYC and national pool scenes with gusto and flair. It even covers underground music and art.
A great news site, the write-ups are all original, not like so many other sites that just copy from one of the big magazines. And the writing is excellent; how can you beat that? There’s current info on tournaments and players, and write-ups of top players. Everything is accompanied with numerous 1st rate photos.
NYC Grind also has a number of videos of matches which they promise to expand over time, along with a series of top-notch instruction articles by BCA instructor Mark Finkelstein, house pro at Slate Billiards in NYC. Lots of great stuff here for your perusal; don’t miss it.

OnePocket.Org
OnePocket.Org is a website devoted to the game of One Pocket. If you have any interest in this game you simply must visit this site and check it out. Thoroughly. The site has lots of news in the One Pocket world, as well as articles on players and history of the game. There are lots of photos of all the great 1P players as well.
The message board, or forum is one of the busiest places. With numerous threads covering every aspect of the game you’ll always have something interesting to read, and the discussions are friendly, on topic (mostly), and insightful. CueTable diagrams are very widely used to make it much easier to talk about shots and layouts, so you’ll want to make sure you’ve installed the Adobe Shockwave plugin.

… Confessions of G Squared …
… Confessions of G Squared …
is the blog of Gail Glazebrook, aspiring pro from NYC. As captain of the Kiss of Death team, Gail shared in the glory when they won the Women’s Open Team division of the BCAPL Nationals earlier this year.
Effervescent and funny, caring and insightful, Gail’s stories will put a smile on your face and add warmth to your heart. Even when she’s giving someone the business. I love her blog because of her writing. The pool stories are always interesting, but it’s the way she tells them that keeps me coming back.
Using different colors and fonts, and profusely illustrated with lots of photos of beautiful women pool players, and other less consequential things, the site is almost as attractive as the girls. Hey, I can call them girls, they can’t be much older than my grandkids. Gail keeps it light and fun, and she publishes regularly. Miss this one and it’ll be a real shame.
