This article a lot better than any of those "official reports" of the match! At least for us pool students. :-)

I don't have the emulation bug you do, but I do have a friend who does. He "channels" different pros from time to time, mainly right after he's watched them on TV or DVD.

I don't know whether it's good or bad. Since there are a lot of styles that can work, I think picking one is pretty much up to the player. There are styles that will make it hard to become successful, but for many styles the difference is probably small.

Anyway, If you're trying on different styles to see which one you like, then it's probably a good thing. If you can't seem to decide and just keep switching back and forth among 2 or more, it's probably getting in your way a little.

Dear John;

     First off, I would just like to say that you have created a very informative website for all us pool nuts out there. Its clear and easy to understand, providing information that is easy to apply. Anyways, I am glad to see that others out there in the world enjoy watching just as much pool online as I have been doing over the last year. I started watching alot of youtube matches posted by Accu-stats and Billiard Club Network, then becoming aware of all the TAR matches, and finally now following up on the upcoming streams via AZbilliards.
     Anyways, I envy you being able to be at the Crooked Cue to see the Shane/Donnie match! Im up in CT, so I watched every minute of it on the computer. What a great deal for $25 TAR has going on. I too like to take notes on the matches, but your breakdown of the match is something that I have been looking for online for a while. Very interesting.
    One thing that I have noticed, that has actually thrown my game off for a while now, is that I try to closely emulate the mannerisms and strokes of the great players, specifically Shane, Bustamante, and Efren. Its like one day I play with a straight stroke, very mechanical like Shanes, and the next, I am shooting all "loopy" like a Pinoy. So, I guess one day Im an American, and the other I am a Fil!
     What I am really asking is if this effect has happened to you, and if it has, how have you managed it? Have you known others to experience it? Also, do you think it does more harm than good? Just seeking some insight from someone who seems to know there stuff, as we all eventually become "students" of this game. I look forward to hearing from you in the future!
