One-Pocket is a specialized game that requires a different skill set than other games. To become a good one-pocket player, you’ll need to learn these skills to a high degree of proficiency, and that warrants a book targeted at doing just that. This excellent text is the only one available at a reasonable price that covers the subject.

I can’t honestly recommend this book. It’s poorly written, with a heavy focus on unusual and difficult shots that will make up only a very small part of your game. Every shot does get its own diagram, but they aren’t particularly good ones.

One of my favorite instructional pool books, Play Your Best Pool by Phil Capelle is the most comprehensive and thorough single volume of general pool instruction I know of.

This long time classic of billiard instruction has strong positives as well as strong negatives. In my opinion the strengths (breadth and depth of content) substantially outweigh the weaknesses (poor graphics, too much emphasis on straight pool).
